Þórdís Gerður - Hljóð í ljóði
No reviews
Hljóð í ljóði (“Sound in Poetry”) is the second solo album by Icelandic cellist Þórdís Gerður Jónsdóttir, an artist equally at home in classical music and jazz. All songs but one are her own, each composed from an old or new Icelandic poem that captivated her — the mood of each poem translated from text into music. The album features poems by Ásta Sigurðardóttir, Davíð Stefánsson, Gerður Kristný, Ragnar Helgi Ólafsson, Steingrímur Thorsteinsson and Steinn Steinarr, plus one English Renaissance song by Robert Johnson, “Have you seen but a bright lily grow?”. Performers alongside Þórdís: Hilmar Jensson (electric guitar), Birgir Steinn Theodórsson (double bass), Matthías MD Hemstock (percussion) and Óskar Guðjónsson (soprano saxophone) — with a recording of Steinn Steinarr reading his own poem.
